Starting counselling can feel like a big step. Here at Motueka Counselling, we want you to feel fully informed and comfortable with what to expect, every step of the way. We're here to answer your questions and guide you through a supportive process.
What a session is like
A session with me is shaped around what you’re bringing on the day. You don’t need to arrive with everything sorted — we figure things out together, at a pace that feels manageable for you. Some sessions feel lighter, some feel messy or confusing, and all of that is welcome.
I listen closely, help you make sense of what’s happening inside you, and support you without judgement or pressure. If things feel overwhelming or hard to talk about, we slow it down. If you need clarity or practical steps, we work those out together. My focus is on helping you feel understood, supported, and not alone with what you’re carrying.
Your first steps with us
When you first get in touch with Motueka Counselling, I reply as soon as I can. From there, we look at days and times to see what will work for both of us.
I’ll also let you know where I’m based in Motueka and what to do when you arrive at the building, so nothing feels confusing or uncertain. The aim is to make those first steps as straightforward and comfortable as possible, allowing you to focus on your well-being.
Preparing for your session
You don’t need to prepare anything special before a session at Motueka Counselling. There’s nothing you need to bring, and you don’t have to think everything through beforehand. Some people arrive with a few things on their mind, and others come in not knowing where to start — both are completely okay.
If it helps, you can jot down anything that’s been sitting with you during the week, but it’s not required. The most important thing is simply showing up as you are. We’ll work out the rest together.
